In 2017, the Michigan Department of Education initiated the Seal of Biliteracy. Biliteracy is defined as the ability to read, write, and speak proficiently in a language other than English. Godwin Heights High School is adopting the Seal of Biliteracy starting with the 2019-2020 school year in order to:
- Award students who have demonstrated proficiency in English and at least one other world language by high school graduation
- Recognize the language skills of students who complete extended sequences of world language study, as well as those whose native language is other than English
- Value and celebrate the linguistic and cultural diversity in our community
- Align to the goals and strategies of Michigan’s Top 10 in 10 endeavor
Biliterate status requires an intermediate-high proficiency level and is likely achieved with consistent language study by the junior/senior year.
En 2017, el Departamento de Educación de Michigan inició el Sello de Alfabetización Biliaria. La alfabetización biliar se define como la capacidad de leer, escribir y hablar de manera competente en un idioma que no sea inglés. Godwin Heights High School está adoptando el Sello de Alfabetización Bilingüe a partir del año escolar 2019-2020 para:
- Premiar a los estudiantes que hayan demostrado dominio del inglés y al menos de otro idioma mundial al graduarse de la escuela preparatoria.
- Reconocer las habilidades lingüísticas de los estudiantes que completan secuencias extendidas de estudio de idiomas del mundo, así como de aquellos cuya lengua natal no es el inglés.
- Valorar y celebrar la diversidad lingüística y cultural en nuestra comunidad.
- Alinearse con los objetivos y estrategias del esfuerzo Top 10 de Michigan
El estado de biliterato requiere un nivel de dominio intermedio-alto y es probable que se logre con un estudio de lenguaje consistente en el año del grado 11 /12.
